A Browser Update Is Not a Vendor Assurance.

Make your technology provider prove which business applications reject compromised keys, who owns the fix, and how service will keep running.

A vendor assurance becomes useful when the buyer can verify the running system.

Name the application, not just the browser

Your provider says the browsers are updated. Ask what that answer covers. A payroll integration, a clinical interface and a supplier portal client may validate connections differently. The inventory should identify each application, its runtime and trust settings, and the party responsible for changing them.

The eMudhra record makes this distinction concrete: Mozilla distributed browser protections, while Go issued a separate certificate-chain fix. This does not establish that your business has been intercepted. It establishes a question that a browser screenshot cannot answer.

Require the version that actually runs

A fixed library in a developer’s repository is not proof of a fixed application in production. Ask for the running version, the build and deployment record, the last validation date and any exceptions. Put an accountable owner next to each system that remains unresolved.

Agree on a controlled test demonstrating rejection of the compromised keys without using live customer traffic. Have the provider explain the expected result and retain the evidence. A claimed pass without a method or date gives the buyer little to review.

Protect continuity while trust changes

A necessary trust change can expose an old integration or stop a connection that relied on a now-rejected certificate. Before rollout, identify the affected workflows, test dependencies and prepare a supported recovery plan. Do not solve a service failure by permanently disabling certificate validation.

The separate PAN-OS investigation adds another renewal question: can a remote session reach the accounts that administer virtual servers or backups? Verify access separation and restoration with a witnessed exercise. A completed patch alone cannot answer whether an attacker entered earlier.

Give automated access an owner

The Cairn investigation shows why an automated testing service itself belongs in the access review. Require approved targets, scoped tools, protected secrets and exportable logs. Test how the operator can stop activity and revoke credentials.

The joint federal AI paper offers voluntary incident-readiness practices. Treat it as a useful design reference within its stated scope. Determine legal reporting obligations from the actual entity, information and event; do not apply a public-company disclosure clock to every small business.

Put the evidence into the contract

Define who rebuilds and deploys affected applications, what constitutes validation, how exceptions are escalated and when you receive evidence. Require advance notice of material supplier changes and named incident contacts. A vendor agreement assigns work; it does not automatically transfer the buyer’s regulatory obligations.

Ask your broker to map the exact policy wording to software maintenance, supplier incidents, recovery controls and employee extortion. Retain test evidence matching the representations you make at renewal. Exclusions and coverage depend on the policy; this brief does not establish a universal exclusion.

Before the signature, ask for the last completed test, the open exceptions and the person who owns each one. Those records turn a broad assurance into work the business can fund and follow up.

The B3 buyer interrogation

Ask for proof before the next signature.

Copy these questions into your next provider review. Require a dated record, an accountable owner and a test result.

  1. Which of our applications, appliances and integrations could still trust the compromised eMudhra certificate keys? Attach the inventory, deployed runtime and trust-store versions, dated rejection-test results, an owner for every exception, and the change plan for any service that could stop connecting.
  2. For every GlobalProtect portal and gateway we use, attach the current build, authentication-override configuration and mitigation evidence for CVE-2026-0257. Show the investigation results for suspicious access, the tested boundary between VPN access and virtualization or backup administration, and the latest isolated recovery result.
  3. For every AI agent or automated testing service with access to our environment, attach its owner, approved targets, tool permissions, stored credentials and activity logs. Show a dated test of credential revocation and the stop mechanism, plus the contract clauses assigning incident notification and evidence delivery.

Source record and limits

Each selection has a primary technical record, an applicable official accountability baseline, and separate editorial coverage. The legal baseline is not a new enforcement action against the incident. Press confirmation does not independently reproduce every forensic finding. Rankings are B3 editorial judgments, not measured probabilities or a claim of universal consensus.
